Change is a natural part of life. How we create, manage and respond to change affects how we grow as humans, and the fullness of the life we lead.
Supporting you in your changes and transitions.
There is no ‘silver bullet’ to improve your quality of life, that is: the level of contentment, fulfilment or joy that you experience. There isn’t a book, or a TED talk, or a podcast that will do it for you. It takes work. Not ‘work’ work, the 9-to-5 kind (though we probably have to do that as well), but work in the sense of a steady application of directed effort. In the choices that you make day-to-day it is possible to create more alignment between how you spend your time (how you literally live) and what you value.
This is the core of change and transition work. Whether it is a change you have identified that you wish to bring about in your life, or external circumstances that have brought change to you, working with a Change and Transition strategist can help you
Clarify the precise change that you are in or wish to bring about
Identify the values that are most important in your life
Plan the concrete steps and actions needed for change
Make choices that are aligned to your values
A Change and Transition strategist is not a coach or a mentor. A coach or mentor knows more about some subject than you do, and teaches you what you don’t know. No-one knows more about your life and your values than you do yourself. In my experience almost everyone knows what they want, they know what they value, they just need some support to help them bring their changes into reality. A C&T strategist works alongside you, with you, to make and execute plans; to encourage you when the going gets tough; to discuss and clarify complicated issues. It is a hands-on, down-in-the-trenches approach.
Concretely, how does this work?
Exploration - a deep inquiry into the change you are considering or are already in. Very often there are several levels to change, some of which may not be immediately evident.
Clarity - through exploration and curious inquiry we gain clarity about the change. This might mean sorting the real possibilities from the unrealistic, or naming the concrete steps.
Values - identifying core values informs the choices we make and the actions we take. Things might not always work out as we wish - that’s just the nature of life - but if we act in alignment with our values we know we’re heading in the right direction and are more able to keep going in the face of setbacks.
Empowerment is about making choices based on clear understanding, that are aligned to our values. This is not about power over others, this is about recognising that we have power within our own lives, even in difficult situations.
Planning and Acting - life doesn’t change because we want it to change, or because we make a decision; life changes because we start to live in new ways. It is important to explore, to gain clarity, to identify values but the manifestation of this understanding is in changing how we live.
Authenticity - as we live in greater alignment to our values, as we act to bring into being the change we aspire to, we start to experience greater authenticity in our lives.
There are a number of phases. Don’t think of these necessarily as sequential steps. More usually one will circle back around and re-visit different phases as more understanding and choice becomes available, but for simplicity the initial order looks like this:
I’m interested. What do I do next?
If you would like to book an initial 1 hour consultation please contact me using the form below or the email address listed. Meetings take place over Zoom. The cost of the initial session is €25; subsequent sessions are €50 per hour, or €75 for 1.5 hour sessions. There is no minimum number of sessions and no obligation to continue beyond the next booked appointment. Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance, otherwise the session fee is payable.
For an initial consultation, ideally I will need a brief description of the change that you are considering (or being faced with, if it’s an external change rather than an internally motivated one), and also a brief description of your life circumstances: family, work, background, etc. I say ‘ideally’ because if you find it difficult to articulate the change you are considering, that’s something we can do together in the first session; it’s not essential to have this information in advance.
